Ein schwarzmetallisches Gipfeltreffen: Die neue Legacy-Ausgabe #161 bringt eine geballte Ladung düsterer Klangkunst, charismatischer Frontmänner und spannender Themenwelten an den Start. Im Mittelpunkt steht die große Black-Metal-Achse des kommenden Herbstes: Anlässlich der Tour von Behemoth, Dimmu Borgir und Dark Funeral trafen wir zwei der prägendsten Figuren des Genres zum Gipfeltreffen – Nergal und Shagrath. Was sie verbindet, reicht weit zurück: Tape-Trading in urzeitlichen Tagen, exzessive Nächte trotz klammer Kassen und eine gemeinsame Geschichte, die bis heute nachhallt. Zwei starke Persönlichkeiten, zwei Perspektiven auf das Rock’n’Roll-Leben, abgerundet von einem Update von Lord Ahriman aus dem Dark-Funeral-Lager.

Für alle Freunde etwas lebensbejahenderer Kunst finden sich im neuen Legacy drei ausführliche Co-Titelstorys mit den Prog-Metallern Myrath, den Thrash-Titanen Exodus und ihrem coolen „Goliath“ sowie den Post-Metal-Legenden Long Distance Calling, die erst kürzlich mit einer Live-Scheibe Aufmerksamkeit erregten und nun mit einem neuen Album daherkommen.

Emotionales Dunkel evozieren anschließend wiederum Miserere Luminis, die mit ihrem neuen Album ein ebenso finsteres wie feinsinniges Werk vorlegen und sich im Gespräch überraschend reflektiert und philosophisch zeigen. Ganz anders Meyhna’ch von Mütiilation, der in fatalistischer Konsequenz die Verantwortung für Hölle und Dämonen dem Menschen selbst zuschreibt – das neue Album liefert dazu den passenden beklemmenden Soundtrack. Mit Sakis Tolis richtet sich außerdem der Blick nach Griechenland: Neben seiner Arbeit mit Rotting Christ fand der Dark-Metal-Visionär Zeit für ein weiteres Soloalbum und spricht im Interview über Kreativität, Vergänglichkeit und die Suche nach dem inneren Kind. Winterfylleth wiederum setzen ihrer gesellschaftlichen Frustration einen düster-melancholischen Sound entgegen – motiviert, entschlossen und atmosphärisch nehmen sie den Kampf der „unyielding season“ auf.

Thematisch außergewöhnliche Wege beschreiten Skaphos, die sich den finsteren Tiefen des Meeres widmen und ihren cineastischen Black-Death-Ansatz sogar filmisch umsetzten. Ebenfalls konzeptionell stark zeigen sich Antrisch, die auf ihrer neuesten „Expedition“ den Wahnsinnstrip vertonen, der einst schon Werner Herzog zu „Aguirre“ inspirierte.

Damit vereint auch das Legacy #161 erneut große Namen, tiefgehende Interviews und ungewöhnliche Perspektiven – von schwarzer Szene-Historie bis zu gesellschaftlicher Gegenwartsanalyse. LEGACY #161:

A Black Metal summit of the highest order: the new issue #161 of Legacy unleashes a concentrated surge of dark sonic art, charismatic frontmen, and compelling thematic worlds. At its core stands the major Black Metal axis of the coming autumn: on the occasion of the tour featuring Behemoth, Dimmu Borgir and Dark Funeral, we brought together two of the genre’s most defining figures for an exclusive summit – Nergal and Shagrath. What unites them reaches far back: tape-trading in primordial days, excessive nights on shoestring budgets, and a shared history that still resonates today. Two formidable personalities, two perspectives on the Rock’n’Roll life, rounded off by an update from Lord Ahriman out of the Dark Funeral camp.

For those inclined toward slightly more life-affirming artistry, the new Legacy also offers three extensive co-cover features: with Progressive Metal band Myrath, Thrash titans Exodus and their coolly commanding “Goliath,” and Post-Metal luminaries Long Distance Calling, who recently turned heads with a live release and now return with a brand-new studio album.

Emotional darkness resurfaces in Miserere Luminis, whose new album presents a work as shadowy as it is nuanced; in conversation, they reveal themselves to be unexpectedly reflective and philosophical. In stark contrast stands Meyhna’ch of Mütiilation, who, with fatalistic resolve, assigns responsibility for hell and demons to humankind itself – the new album provides the suitably suffocating soundtrack. With Sakis Tolis our gaze turns to Greece: alongside his work with Rotting Christ, the Dark Metal visionary has found time for another solo album and speaks about creativity, transience, and the search for the inner child. Winterfylleth, meanwhile, channel their social frustration into a sombre, melancholic sound – motivated, determined, and atmospheric as they confront the struggle of the “unyielding season”.

Skaphos venture down extraordinary thematic paths, diving into the abyssal depths of the sea and even translating their cinematic Black/Death approach onto film. Equally conceptual in scope are Antrisch, whose latest “Expedition” sonically retraces the descent into madness that once inspired Werner Herzog’s “Aguirre”.

Thus, Legacy #161 once again unites major names, in-depth interviews, and unusual perspectives – spanning black scene history to contemporary social analysis.
